Southwark Council Mentoring Scheme

Mentoring is a development opportunity that will support and encourage people to manage their learning and maximise their potential.

As a mentor you can use your experience to develop others, but you can also learn so much from the people you mentor. As a mentee, you benefit from that shared experience and can explore new ideas and challenges in a confidential set up.

Southwark Council together with other boroughs uses an online mentoring system, "MyMentor", to facilitate the pairing of mentors and mentees. The scheme is designed to help mentees find suitable mentors and help mentors develop their skills.
By accessing mentors not just in Southwark, mentees can draw from a wider pool of expertise. 

How do you become a Mentor or Mentee?

The scheme is open to all Southwark employees, however you must get approval from your line manager before signing up to MyMentor. Allocation of mentors and mentees is carried out independently by registering through MyMentor and following the online instructions.
This system allows you to sign up to be a Mentor or a Mentee by completing some details and a short profile. Mentees can rate the topics they are interested in exploring with their Mentors and are then matched to possible Mentors. They can shortlist up to three Mentors that they feel would be most appropriate to meet their needs and then contact them by phone or email to decide which one is best for them.

Training is provided for those people who are new to mentoring.
